A sinkhole in Mexico managed to swallow a whole Jarritos Soda truck

A Jarritos soda truck was making its way through Mexico City when the asphalt suddenly collapsed beneath it.

The road split open, and the delivery rig slid backwards into a sinkhole.

In seconds, the truck was swallowed whole, with only its nose left sticking out.

The clip blew up online, turning a routine soda delivery into Mexico City’s latest viral spectacle.

Why this Jarritos soda truck got swallowed

The incident happened in Iztapalapa, Mexico City’s most populous borough. 

Mayor Aleida Alavez Ruiz said the capital’s ‘very old’ drainage network collapsed beneath the truck and Reuters verified the location using satellite imagery. 

Thankfully, nobody was injured.

Crews arrived within minutes and coordinated preventative actions, but the truck’s weight dragged it even further down. 

In the end, two heavy-duty cranes and a backhoe spent 20 hours wrestling it out.

Once the truck was free, the sinkhole kept widening. 

Officials identified a collapsed concrete water collector buried deep under the road, and authorities evacuated 20 nearby residents as a precaution.

Ruiz later shared follow-up footage of the delivery truck being wheeled away and a promise that the gaping hole would be properly remediated.
