In the wake of one of its biggest iOS updates yet, tech giant Apple has revealed that it has sold its three-billionth iPhone.
You’ll be hard-pressed to throw a handful of rocks in Times Square and not hit an iPhone user.
The series of smartphones has almost monopolised the industry in the last ten years, quickly catching up to the Android behemoth Samsung.
Now, hot on the heels of the Japanese tech wizards, Apple has announced it has shipped more than three billion iPhones.

Apple hits major milestone with 3 billion sales
Apple, as we know it, has become much more than the phone maker that it started as.
AirPods and CarPlay now work harmoniously, and AirTags serve as protective tracking devices for your cars, meaning the brand has become much more than a phone call assistant.
Now it’s gearing up for a ‘complete reboot’ of the iPhone with an ‘unrecognizable’ iOS update, moving from strength to strength.
And this comes in the wake of its three-billionth sale.
In a recent quarterly earnings call, Suhasini Chandramouli, Director of Investor Relations, revealed the major milestone.
The company has been selling iPhones since 2007, making its first billion sales in the period up until 2016.
It took another five years to make the second billion, taking up to 2021.
In record time, the third billion sales came four years later, thanks to a ‘double-digit’ growth in the last year.
Over the years, the most popular models have been the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 11, selling 220 million and 159 million, respectively.
With that pattern, the iPhone 16 might be paving the way for a massive haul from the 17th-gen smartphone, or the rumored ‘Ultra’.
What does the brand have cooking for the future?
The company still has some way to go to catch Samsung, which has sold 3.5 billion phones (in its last update).
But with Apple cooking up some major benefits to the CarPlay system, a mind-reading chip for the Vision Pro, and upgrades promised to the Apple Intelligence AI, the future looks incredibly bright for the company.
Samsung and Apple, fighting it out like Ali and Frazier, have left all other phone makers in the distance, such as Nokia.
