Famed Italian design house Zagato unveils gullwing hypercar limited to 19 units

Zagato has finally entered the hypercar arena, unveiling plans for its first-ever hypercar after years of designing some of the world’s most collectible GTs.

The storied Italian coachbuilder is teaming up with German motorsport technology specialist Capricorn Group to create the machine.

While the companies remain secretive about specifications or even the official name, they’ve offered a glimpse through a dramatic teaser image.

The project represents a major turning point for Zagato, a design house that has shaped over 45 different automotive brands during its 106-year history.

The teaser hints at a sleek silhouette that combines familiar hypercar cues with subtle nods to Zagato heritage.

A bold front fascia with trapezoid headlamps, a large hood vent, and dramatic gullwing doors dominate the view, while a subtle ‘double-bubble’ roofline peeks out just behind the doors.

Although it borrows from the modern hypercar design playbook, fans will hope for more of the traditional touches that have long defined Zagato’s creations.

The car is expected to blend Italian artistry with Capricorn’s precision engineering to deliver something more than just another record-chasing machine.

“This project marks a turning point in our 106-year history of collaborating with more than 45 automotive brands in the creation of collectible GT cars,” said Andrea Zagato.

He emphasized that the company’s first hypercar is not about following fleeting trends but about enhancing the emotional driving experience, forging ‘a true synthesis of timeless design and drivability.’

That philosophy is echoed by Capricorn CEO Robertino Wild, who described the project as a marriage of German engineering discipline and Italian design flair.

He also said they have the goal of building a car that ‘speaks quietly but leaves a lasting impression.’

Production is scheduled to begin in 2026

Exclusivity is baked into the project from the start, which will make its public debut on October 10 at the Zoute Grand Prix in Belgium.

Zagato is no stranger to making exclusive cars; one example of this is the Zagato-Jaguar XK140 hybrid car, where only two were ever made.

The two companies have confirmed that just 19 coupes will be produced, with sales handled exclusively through the Belgian high-end dealer Louyet Group.

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2026, and pricing details remain undisclosed.

However, the rarity and craftsmanship suggest the figure will place it firmly in the upper echelons of the hypercar market. The post Famed Italian design house Zagato unveils gullwing hypercar limited to 19 units appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
