In a heartwarming story, a father and son waited decades for a Plymouth Superbird after hearing an urban legend that a scary man in town had one.

Mike Hill had dreamed of owning a Plymouth Superbird since his childhood, and he knew that a scary man in town had one because he could see it hidden with its iconic tips and massive rear wing visible from the road.

Mike and his son decided to build a Daytona together, using the project as a bonding experience, and decided that they would approach the man with the Plymouth Superbird to show him what they were working on.

It ended up being a story of father-son bonding, friendship, and a cool restored Plymouth Superbird rising from the ashes to fly once more.

This father and son wait decades for Plymouth Superbird urban legend

There’s nothing like a classic all-original car like an EW1 Plymouth Superbird, but this one has a really heartwarming story behind it.

The owner of the Superbird, called Mike Hill, had always wanted one ever since he was a boy, and he had heard of an old urban legend in his town that a scary and eccentric man owned one.

He managed to verify it while catching glimpses of it from the road, and he could see the iconic tips and massive rear wing.

While working on a Dodge Daytona with his son, Hill decided to approach the eccentric owner, taking along car parts to show their genuine interest in cars, and surprisingly, the man warmed to his fellow gearheads.

They formed a friendship, with the man, Harry, who actually owned two Superbirds, selling to Mike and his son under two strict conditions: the cars remain with the father-son duo and that one car goes to each generation.

What now?

Now that the two Superbirds have come into the Hill family’s possession, the YouTube channel Graveyard Carz got involved in the restoration of one of the rusty cars.

The YouTube team media-blasted, rust-removed, and repaired the Plymouth Superbird using factory-spec implementations, including all the original assembly provisions for accurate reconstruction.

The team presented the restored Superbird to Mike and the original owner, Harry, and they were both pleased and excited by the new way the car looked.

The Superbird is so super it’ll be cheering up people for many generations to come.
