Eagle-eyed Formula 1 fans think Max Verstappen is all set to join Mercedes after tracking the location of his private jet.
Verstappen joined the Red Bull Junior Team back in 2014, and made his way into the main team a couple of years later.
And it’s safe to say he got off to a flying start, becoming the youngest person to ever win a Formula 1 Grand Prix at the age of 18 years and 228 days.
But after a long and wildly successful career at Red Bull, rumors are swirling he could be headed to Mercedes.

Fans think they’ve spotted a clue that Max Verstappen is joining Mercedes
It’s been a tumultuous start to the month for Red Bull, with Christian Horner being sacked after 20 years with the team.
“Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO (chief executive) of Red Bull Racing,” Red Bull GmbH said in a statement on July 9, 2025.
In response, Horner took to social media to share a lengthy post in which he essentially thanked everyone and also reminded everyone of what they achieved.
Now, Formula 1 fans are convinced that Max Verstappen is also set to depart Red Bull with rumors suggesting he’s heading to Mercedes.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has recently confirmed he is interested in signing up the Dutchman, although Red Bull has said Verstappen is signed up until 2028.
Despite that, rumors have persisted. A couple of weeks back, Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher revealed that two yachts owned separately by Verstappen and Wolff had been seen off the coast of Sardinia and suggested a meeting was on the cards.
“It’s no coincidence either that this week, two yachts are cruising off Sardinia – one belongs to Toto Wolff, the other to Max Verstappen,” Schumacher told Formel1.de.
Now, eagle-eyed F1 fans think they may have spotted a major clue after tracking Verstappen’s private jet and seeing it was in Sardinia at the same time Wolff was on the Italian island.
A Reddit post shows the quote from Schumacher alongside tracking data for Flight Radar showing the plane touching down in Sardinia.
What has Wolff said about Verstappen?
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has been battered with questions surrounding his interest in Verstappen for months.
And in a recent interview with Sky Sports, he confirmed that he was keen on signing the 27-year-old to Mercedes.
Max Verstappen’s jet has landed in Sardinia. This comes one day after Ralf Schumacher claimed Toto and Max will be meeting there.

He also made it clear that George Russell knows about the ongoing conversation and that it won’t impact his contract talks for 2026 and beyond.
“What we are trying to do in the team is be transparent, as we are,” he said.
“You can choose to hold things under wraps, or do what we’ve done in the last 20 years I’ve been here, [which is] putting it out there and saying this is the situation.
“These drivers are clever people, and they talk to each other.
“I’m always open about these things, and I’m saying it how it is, and there’s no such thing as saying, ‘We are going to sign Max,’ because it’s so far away that it’s not realistic at that stage.
“So with George, we talk about everything.”
