Illinois man spends 15 years hiding pristine stash of GM muscle cars inside basement of old furniture factory

An Illinois man spent 15 years hiding a pristine stash of GM muscle cars, which were left inside the basement of an old furniture factory.

YouTuber Auto Archaeology got to check out this stash of cars in 2019, which had resided in their factory location for 15 years, and thankfully, out of the worst that the weather could throw at them.

As the factory was temperature-controlled due to workers working with wood, very little moisture or humidity got into the cars.

The video shows the cars in great condition, despite the dust, and they look like they will be worth saving.

The GM muscle cars are stashed together

Thanks to the dry environment they have been stored in, the cars were in incredibly good condition.

As the YouTuber showed, some of the cars are particularly interesting.

The first car in the video was particularly special, and it was a Pontiac GTO oddball, finished in Cardinal Red.

This car was ordered specifically to be a race car, so it has extra features such as manual brakes and bucket seats.

Sadly, the original Ram-air engine has long gone, but the car itself is a real survivor.

Later in the video, a 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 convertible crops up, which was equally as immaculate.

Under the engine bay was very impressive, with very little dust or dirt visible.

All the muscle cars in the video were for sale.

For those viewing at the time, they may have been able to snag one or two of these cars.

That is because all of them were up for sale, so the Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs, and more all had another shot at running.

Another Oldsmobile 4-4-2 was finished in a special order color, although sadly, it was repainted black by a later owner.

But it has survived pretty well despite the years in the basement.

In this color, it is one of just 549 made, and like this 4-4-2, a real rarity that deserves saving.

Oldsmobiles dominated much of the basement, with a super rare Oldsmobile Hurst with a 455ci engine also making an appearance.

It is incredible how well preserved these cars were for 15 years underground.
