On today’s episode of Radio Andy’s “Andy Cohen Live,” Andy asked special guest Jason Isaacs from “The White Lotus” if he based his character Tim Ratliff’s southern accent on anyone from “Southern Charm.”

“I did not watch or base anything on anybody from ‘Southern Charm,'” Jason confirmed to Andy.

According to Jason, renowned dialect coach Liz Himelstein told him the accents on “Southern Charm” were of no use to him when they found out his character was from Durham, North Carolina.

“I found politicians from Durham, because what’s really intersting about Durham — and this is to those people on the internet who were incredibly rude about me, but you’re entitled to do [that], but about my acccent particularly — but they had two vowel sounds which are hangovers from the old Colonial days,” Jason explained.

He continued, “Not everyone in Durham. Not young people. But particularly Tim, who wants to sound like his grandfather and who lives in a town where there are statues to his relatives, where he’s got a wing of the university named after him and stuff. There are two vowel sounds. One is the short ‘A’ sound, and the other is the diphthong ‘O’ sound, and that is pretty unique to Durham.”

Jason added, “None of ‘Southern Charm’ would’ve been useful to me, so I based it on some politicians.”

“Andy Cohen Live” airs weekdays at 10am ET on Radio Andy (Ch. 102). Stream full episodes anytime on the SiriusXM app.
