Jung Kook Calls ‘3D’ a New Challenge to Prove Himself as a Solo Artist After ‘Seven’

Hot off the release of his wildly successful debut solo single “Seven,” Jung Kook is looking to top the charts again with “3D.” Just as he teamed up with Latto the first time, Jung Kook featured rapper Jack Harlow on the new track.

In an exclusive interview with The Morning Mash Up on SiriusXM Hits 1, Jung Kook described the sound of “3D” as reminiscent of the early 2000s. He expects the song to hit not only with nostalgic millennials but also “younger generations who do not even know such style from the 2000s — both of those groups will love this song.”

“It’s a very sophisticated song [that’s] quite different from ‘Seven,'” he explained. “It was also a new challenge for me to prove myself again with this song.”

As Jung Kook’s sophomore solo single, “3D” will have a lot to live up to: Released in July, “Seven” debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Global 200. It stayed atop the latter chart for seven weeks.

When picking collaborators for his music, Jung Kook revealed that artists like Latto and Jack Harlow come to mind immediately during the creative process. He said, “I just try to think as soon as possible, and I just try to think of someone that would be the perfect fit.” And for songwriting, he doesn’t save his ideas anywhere. “I don’t really store them,” he continued. “It’s just whenever the moment comes, that’s when I work on my songs.”

Although they didn’t spend time together in the recording studio due to conflicting schedules, Jung Kook and Jack Harlow did link up to film the song’s music video. “It was my first time seeing him,” he said, “and I got to play chess with him because it was there as a prop for the music video.”

Jung Kook may have won the chess match, but he admitted that Jack could take him in one-on-one basketball: “He’s actually tall, taller than me.”

As his journey as a solo artist continues, Jung Kook explained, he feels the absence of his BTS bandmates the most when he’s alone behind the scenes.

“I think I miss the moments [most] when we were hanging out and being together in the green room and also being on the stage together,” he shared. “Nowadays, even if I’m just waiting or chilling in the green room myself, it doesn’t get really loud anymore. So the loudness and the little bit of noise coming from my bandmates is gone.”

But he still gets the company he needs from the BTS fanbase, ARMY, and his favorite experience with them is always when he’s on stage and they sing along.

“I think I’m most surprised when I realize how much love and support I get from so many people,” he added, noting that the best gift he’s ever gotten is ARMY’s love.

Jung Kook also told The Morning Mash Up that he’d like to learn how to play the bass, he wants to make his existing tattoos “prettier,” and that the thing he misses most about home is being on his phone in his own bed.

“There are days that I will spend 24 hours in my own bed,” he confessed. “That’s also possible for me. After spending all day long in my own bed, that gives me a little bit of shock. I tend to think to myself, ‘What am I doing?’ It actually becomes a good motivator for me to work harder.”
