In an earth-shattering flash sale, a Pennsylvania Kia dealership is marking down sinkhole-swallowed cars.

The business recently got an unexpected visit from Mother Nature, and rather than panic, they pounced.

Four Sportages took a dip into the asphalt and came out with barely a bruise.

So naturally, they turned it into a marketing stunt with discounts as unexpected as the hole itself.

They’re selling sinkhole-swallowed cars for cheap

The earth opened up at Altoona Courtesy Kia after a heavy rainstorm and four Kia Sportages slipped right in.

Only one came out with a scratch, which is kind of incredible given the circumstances.

But instead of quietly fixing the lot and moving on, the dealership turned it into a full-blown sales event.

They knocked $1,000 off the affected cars, threw in $1,250 rebates, and and leaned all the way in with a promo that basically wrote itself – ‘Groundbreaking deals’ – it’s so good we only wish we’d come up with it.

It’s the kind of opportunistic sales energy only a dealership could pull off – turning a hiccup into hype overnight.

And you know what? It probably worked.

Local headlines, Facebook shares, customers calling up for ‘the one that got swallowed’ – it’s marketing gold.

When sinkholes take cars with them

To be fair, this isn’t the first time a car met its match underground.

The most famous case? The 2014 Corvette Museum disaster in Kentucky, where a cavernous sinkhole swallowed eight vintage Vettes. Total car-nage.

Since then, sinkholes have gone full villain arc – swallowing intersections in Japan, taking out a West Virginia police station, and flooding through Phoenix after a busted hydrant.

Compared to those? The Kia case doesn’t seem so bad. A scratch here, a discount there, and some freshly repaved concrete.

But don’t let the chill vibes fool you – Pennsylvania is prime sinkhole country, thanks to its geology and heavy infrastructure.

And according to the USGS, there’s no national database tracking these things. They just happen.

In this case, though, a disaster was just a discount in disguise. A slightly scratched Sportage got a markdown and a headline and the dealership walked away with free PR.

Genius.
