Chris Siperko invested a lot of cash into the track for his 10-year-old son, but it didn’t get a lot of use.

Neighbors have complained about noise and possible negative effects on the environment.

And now the dispute has ended up in court.

This Maryland man is facing a lot of opposition for building a backyard racetrack

Chris Siperko, from Howard County, Maryland, built a go-kart track for his son on his property.

Construction on the track began in December 2023 and wrapped up the following month, coming out at half a mile long and 24 feet wide.

But it’s been an uphill struggle since then to get much use out of it.

To date, Siperko’s 10-year-old son has gotten to drive on the track for 15 minutes.

His neighbors have been fighting for the track to be removed from the property, citing noise complaints.

The issue has ended up in court, where Siperko’s lawyers called up two expert witnesses.

One was Robert Vogel, a civil engineer, and the other was Jeffrey Straw, a vibration and acoustic consultant from Florida.

They both vouched for Siperko and said the track should be approved.

Vogel said the track wouldn’t have many adverse effects, while Straw testified that the track would meet the 65 or lower decibel threshold.

However, the lawyer representing the neighbors focused on the environmental impact of the track.

Part of the course was built on wetlands, and they suggested that part of what was being proposed would encroach on neighboring properties.

Two neighbors spoke during the hearing, including Joe Quill.

“I believe the quality of life for us and other neighbors will be diminished by the continued use of a race track,” he told the court, as reported by CBS News.

The next hearing is scheduled to take place on July 10, when it’s expected that a final decision will be made.
