A mechanic has a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder’s fault for $500, after the owner had spent $5,000 and not been able to fix the issue with the Pathfinder SUV.

YouTuber ‘The Car Wizard’ is highly regarded when it comes to fixing cars and finding out what went wrong with them in the first place.

This 1999 Nissan Pathfinder SUV wasn’t running properly, with the engine surging and stalling, and even a $5,000 fix couldn’t resolve it.

However, the Wizard was able to work his magic and get this car back on the road again.

What was the 1999 Nissan Pathfinder’s fault?

The YouTuber says that the SUV originally was misfiring and would begin to lose power.

The check engine light also kept coming on, and the owner was fed up with it.

That is what caused him to turn to David Long, the Car Wizard, in the hope he’d be able to fix the issue.

With over 26 years on the road and 218,947 miles, the SUV had had a long, tough life.

Yet its 3.3-liter V6, with 168hp and 196lb-ft of torque, was still going strong, despite the misfire.

A quick test with a smoke machine helped to find a huge vacuum leak that the previous garage had somehow missed.

Then, more issues were found with the Nissan.

Further diagnostics fixed the Nissan SUV

The Wizard placed a microphone near the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and heard some worrying gurgling.

If the EGR valve is faulty, it can cause all sorts of issues.

This can be misfires, poor performance, and a rough engine when idling.

The thing is, fixing it isn’t complicated, says the Wizard.

Plus, it doesn’t cost $5,000 either; in fact, it only costs around $500.

So it’s clear that the other garage wasn’t looking in the right place.

In fact, like some other car owners, this particular owner might have been scammed.

The Wizard is convinced the previous garage scammed the owner, leaving him out of pocket.

Thankfully, as it is a simple fix and a cheap part, this Nissan can get back onto the road again.

The moral of the story here is to be careful where you send your car, and who you get to look at it.The post Mechanic fixes Nissan Pathfinder’s fault for $500 after owner had spent $5,000 and still not had it fixed appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
