Nashville man bought truckload of race cars for cheap off Marketplace and didn’t know what to expect

An American man from Nashville bought a truck loaded with cheap Formula 2000 race cars from Facebook Marketplace and had no idea what to expect.

YouTuber Sean Kerr, creator of the Bikes and Beards channel, bought the bundle of Formula 2000 race cars from a racing school that was closing down.

The cars cost around $5,000 apiece, and despite normally being a motorcycle guy, the YouTuber couldn’t resist sinking some money into them.

However, a closer look at the racers revealed a few issues which might have led Kerr to regret his impulsive decision.

A quick look at the cars shows them in worse condition than expected.

At least one of the cars had suffered front wing damage.

That led to concerns with Kerr and his team that the cars don’t even run and will just be expensive paperweights.

However, an inspection reveals they have Hewland transmissions and Ford Pinto engines.

Ironically, these could be worth more than the cars themselves.

The cockpits, as with many race cars, are incredibly small, and it’s a tight fit for them to get into.

But there was good news! They fired one car up, and it started easily and ran smoothly, meaning there was some hope for the others.

Unsurprisingly , Kerr called dibs on the first car they could persuade to start up!

Race cars in general are as light as possible.

The team found that one of them weighed around 1,382LBS.

That’s lighter than they expected, however, it’s also heavier than track cars like the Ariel Atom.

Thanks to their Ford Pinto V8s, they also won’t be the most powerful cars, reaching up 100HP.

But these race cars were a stepping stone from go-karts to Formula 3 racing, and didn’t need several hundred horsepower.

Formula 2000 cars can also be used to prepare drivers for moving up the ranks, potentially to Formula 1 or IndyCar. Just ask Zak Brown, who worked his way from go-karts to CEO of McLaren Racing.

Despite some nagging issues, Kerr and his team were excited by the potential of these four race cars.
