On “The Julia Cunningham Show,” actress Natasha Rothwell speaks with Julia about fan theories around Max’s “The White Lotus” Season 3. Hear their full conversation on Radio Andy (Ch. 102) today at 3pm ET/12pm PT, or stream the episode on the SiriusXM app after its premiere.
“One of my pastimes, I watch a lot of murder docs and murder mysteries and things … And one of the themes is, like, many criminals revisit the scene of the crime because they get something from that sort of proximity,” Natasha says, addressing recurring character Greg Hunt (John Gries) reappearing in Thailand. “And I do think there’s something about Greg wanting to keep one eye on The White Lotus [hotel] … Out of all the places he could hang out, he’s chosen this place where he’s met a previous victim.”
Natasha also talks about how she’s been tagged in many “White Lotus” conspiracy theories online, and they fill up her For You page on social media.
“At first I was like, ‘Oh, is my phone just listening to me because I’m talking a lot of “White Lotus”?’ I was like, ‘No, it’s in the zeitgeist that much,'” she says. “And there are channels dedicated to whiteboarding and PowerPoint slides about what this small moment meant.”
Confirming she saw a lengthy fan-made YouTube video tying the show’s intro graphics to one of Tanya McQuoid’s (Jennifer Coolidge) dresses in Season 2, Natasha adds, “Obviously, I’m privy to the truth because I’ve read everything and done everything, and I’m like, ‘They really ran with that.'”
She continues, “For what it’s worth, I don’t want to dismiss how thoughtful Mike [White] is, because there’s so many moments that are so deliberately crafted and so smart that I just — again, as myself, a writer, I’m just like, ‘Oh my god, how?’ His ability to carry all of that and to visually express these sort of themes is so cool, but there is a lot that’s just … It’s a reach.”
“The Julia Cunningham Show” is a live, one-hour pop culture and entertainment show airing weekdays at 3pm ET/12pm PT from the SiriusXM LA Studios. Stream full episodes anytime on the SiriusXM app.
