Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man car, a custom Acura NSX Roadster, is making its first public appearance in more than a decade.
Built exclusively for Marvel’s The Avengers, which was the highest-grossing film of 2012, the one-off superhero supercar will go on display during Monterey Car Week on August 15.
Acura is bringing the roadster to The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, as part of its 35th anniversary celebration of the first-generation NSX.
Fans will also get the first chance to register interest ahead of the vehicle’s charity auction next year.

The custom Acura NSX Roadster was surprisingly old
The Acura NSX Roadster was a Hollywood original, designed by Acura’s Los Angeles studio under then-Creative Director Dave Marek.
Inspired by the second-generation NSX Concept revealed at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, the car was hand-built by Trans FX in Oxnard, California.
Beneath the sleek, resin-and-fiberglass bodywork lies a well-used 1991 Acura NSX chassis with an astonishing 252,000 miles on the odometer.
Outfitted with a two-inch suspension drop, 18-inch wheels, and aftermarket seats, the iron man car retains the exact look it had on screen, right down to its ‘Stark 33’ license plate.
Marvel films have a long history of pairing their heroes with memorable on-screen rides.
Tony Stark’s garage has featured everything from Audi R8s in the early Iron Man installments, to the custom Acura NSX Roadster seen briefly in Avengers scenes.
Marvel heroes are often associated with luxury vehicles
In fact, Audi’s association with Robert Downey Jr and his Iron Man persona was quite clever, given that the carmaker built its luxury legacy on Marvel movies.
The studio’s penchant for futuristic, aspirational vehicles has also extended to other heroes, such as Black Panther’s Lexus LC 500 and Captain Marvel’s mid-’90s Pontiac Grand Prix.
Acura’s Monterey Car Week showcase will feature the Iron Man NSX Roadster alongside other NSX legends, including a rare 1995 NSX-R and the 1999 Zanardi Edition.
Also sharing the stage will be the all-new RSX Prototype, previewing Acura’s next-generation all-electric premium performance SUV.
The roadster’s upcoming charity auction is expected to draw significant attention from both car collectors and Marvel memorabilia enthusiasts.
