Stunning Corvette concept is actually a side project by a Mercedes-Benz designer

A Mercedes-Benz designer in India came up with an interesting concept based on the Chevy Corvette.

The new concept combines design elements from classic Corvettes with a modern touch, and it looks brilliant.

And the engine is at the front, where it used to be in every Corvette before the most recent model.

Too bad this is just a concept and not a production car.

A retro-futuristic design with a modern twist

Maitreya Dhanak works as a designer at Mercedes-Benz in India. But, despite being a Mercedes guy, he clearly knows how to design retro-futuristic American muscle cars as well.

His design is certainly modern, but it also includes cheeky references to iconic models.

The split-window at the back, for example, is a homage to the 1963 C2 Corvette, but he also included bulging rear fenders like the C3 used to have.

Moving further back, we also find a quad-lamp tail that looks Bugatti-esque.

Another design feature worth mentioning is the engine placement, because Dhanak decided to put it right in front of the cabin, where it used to be until the Chevy Corvette C8 came along.

The bad news is this is just a concept, and the next Corvette probably won’t look like this.

About the next Corvette

When it was first launched, about five years ago, the C8 opened a new chapter for Chevy because it was the first mid-engined Corvette in history.

Chevy took a huge risk with this decision, after seven decades and seven generations, but it paid off.

Then Chevy raised the bar again and defied conventions by launching the first hybrid model. Then the company unveiled the ZR1, the fastest Corvette ever made, even faster than its Lamborghini and McLaren competitors.

We have no idea what’s going to happen with the next one, as Chevy certainly doesn’t seem in rush to replace the C8 yet.

But there’s one thing we can assume with a reasonable degree of certainty, and that’s the fact that it’ll be mid-engined.

Automakers tend to stick with whatever works, and considering how well the C8 performed – both critically and commercially – Chevrolet is unlikely to go back to a front-engine design. The post Stunning Corvette concept is actually a side project by a Mercedes-Benz designer appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
