The two self-driving cars have been the talk of the automotive world in recent months.

But a passenger filmed the moment that the two came to meet each other on the street in Austin.

It wasn’t quite a clash of the titans, but if self-driving cars could have an awkward moment, this would be it.

Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi met each other in Texas

A clip was shared online in which passengers in a Tesla Robotaxi were watching on as their car came face to face with a Waymo.

Anuarbek Imanbaev, a self described ‘Tesla geek’, shared the clip to X.

“First Robot vs. Robot Faceoff! Robotaxi vs. Waymo in Austin,” he captioned the video.

It’s not quite a face-off in what we’d usually imagine with robots, where lazars are being fired and chunks of metal are being ripped off.

But it’s a stand-off nonetheless.

The face down came as the two cars came to a narrow opening on the road.

It wasn’t clear which car would be the one to back down and let the other pass.

In fact, it took five minutes for a conclusion to be reached.

In the end, it was the Robotaxi that gave way and allowed the Waymo through.

Many people were quick to suggest that a remote operator had resolved the situation.

Self-driving cars are all the rage lately

Austin has been one of the epicenters of the robotaxi phenomenon.

Waymo has expanded its operations across the US, beginning with Phoenix.

And now that the Tesla robotaxi has been rolled out there too, something of a rivalry might be brewing.

Tesla is looking to compete with Waymo in other cities now too, including San Francisco.

We probably won’t know who the ‘victor’ is for another few years.

Or maybe it’ll be like Pepsi and Coca-Cola, and these two could co-exist alongside each others as rivals.
