The 1992 F1 season was an extremely important one – for quite a few reasons.
For one, Williams broke the stranglehold that McLaren had held over the Constructors’ Championship.
For another, that season is when Nigel Mansell became the first British world champion since James Hunt in 1976.
It was Mansell’s first and only world championship – and he would make his own history.
After securing the title in mid-August at the Hungarian GP, Mansell became the first driver to win nine races.
Mansell’s car, the Williams FW14B, was by far the best car on the grid that year.
It was so good, in fact, that both Williams drivers – Mansell and teammate Riccardo Patrese – took the top two spots in the Drivers’ standings by the end of the season.
This summer, F1 is celebrating 75 years since its first-ever race. As part of the celebration, Alex Hirschi, AKA Supercar Blondie witnessed the Red Bull car reveal. And it was amazing.
But the amazing cars don’t end there. In fact, Nigel Mansell’s 1992 title-winning car is also starring in the celebration.
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed is going to be a showcase of all things F1.
And the daughter of a racing legend will be taking Mansell’s car up the iconic hill.
Lia Block is the daughter of the legendary – and much missed – Ken Block.
She also happens to be a member of the Formula 1 Academy.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Block posted pictures from the cockpit of the iconic car.
“I think I was [in] shock while doing this. My first seat fit in the FW14B, Nigel Mansell’s championship-winning car. I’m so honored to be driving this car at @fosgoodwood 2025,” Lia said.
Getting to drive an F1 championship-winning car has to be about as cool as it gets.
And we find it extremely touching and fitting that Lia Block gets the honour of doing so.The post This F1 car won a championship in 1992 and now Lia Block is sending it up a hill appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
