U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Speaks About Cryptocurrencies: “On Cryptocurrencies, United States…”

The post U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Speaks About Cryptocurrencies: “On Cryptocurrencies, United States…” appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the US should be a global leader in the field of digital assets. Speaking at the House Financial Services Committee, Bessent called out to members of Congress seeking regulation for cryptocurrencies: “The United States should be the number one location for digital assets.” Asked why the United States should take the lead in this area, Bessent said, “We believe that Congress and the Senate should create a good market structure to spread U.S. best market practices around the world.” Bessent, who was appointed to the Treasury Department by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Senate in January, has previously drawn attention for his positive approach to digital assets, arguing that the crypto economy is “here to stay.” Bessent is also a member of the “Presidential Working Group on Digital Asset Markets,” which was created by Trump’s executive order dated January 23. While the hearing focused mostly on tariffs, another issue the committee focused on was a comprehensive crypto regulation bill. On Monday, House Republicans introduced a draft bill that would redefine the jurisdictions of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The bill also includes new disclosure requirements. But some Democrats have raised concerns about the president’s relationship with crypto after Trump launched his own memecoin shortly before his 2025 inauguration. Trump-linked startup World Liberty Financial recently introduced its own stablecoin. On Tuesday, some Democratic lawmakers held their own roundtable discussions on crypto, abandoning their planned session on crypto and publicly expressing concerns about Trump’s influence in the space. Still, some, like Democratic lawmaker Angie Craig, stayed on, saying “both sides need to work together.” *This is not investment advice.
