Woman paid man $800 for place in queue to buy $100k of original iPhones before realizing expensive mistake

A woman happily handed over $800 to take the first place in queue outside a Texas store hoping to snap up $100,000 worth of original iPhones, but her plan had one big flaw.

The first-generation Apple iPhone was released back in 2007, and it’s hard to put into words just how big a phenomenon the launch was.

Folks were desperate to get their hands on one of the original iPhones, so much so that they were willing to sleep outside of stores.

But one woman in Texas thought she had come up with the perfect plan to get her hands on dozens of them, but it turned out to have one glaring error.

She thought she had a cunning plan to snag a bunch of original iPhones

Over the years, we’ve had more Apple iPhone updates and upgrades than you can shake a stick at, including the launch of the most recent Apple 16; incidentally, here’s exactly how much you’d have made buying Apple shares instead of a new iPhone every time one is released.

However, it all started back on June 29, 2007, with the launch of the original iPhones

At the time, people hadn’t seen tech like it and were desperate to snap one up.

And one woman in Dallas, Texas, thought she had a genius plan to make a quick buck.

She turned up to her local store with a whopping $100,000 and a simple idea: buy as many iPhones as she could and then sell them on eBay at a higher price.

At the time, original iPhones cost around $499 from the Apple store, but the woman thought she could probably get more than that selling online.

She even gave the guy first in the queue $800 to take his place, so she didn’t have to spend hours queuing up.

So far, while not exactly ethical or fair, it seems like a pretty solid plan, right?

But it didn’t take long before it all fell apart.

As soon as the doors opened and she headed into the store to try and bag as many iPhones as her $100,000 would allow, she was quickly informed that sales were strictly limited to one per customer.

In the end, the woman was only able to buy just one iPhone and was $800 out of pocket after paying someone to queue for her.

Cue the sad trombone music.

The iPhone has come a long way since 2007

While we might not see the sort of frenzy around new Apple iPhone releases as we did back in 2007, that doesn’t mean the tech giant has taken its foot off the gas.

Its latest model, the iPhone 16, which was released back in February, was given a new look and came with Apple Intelligence thanks to its A18 chip.

But of course, to make way for all of these new updates, older models – like the original iPhones – are now obsolete. The post Woman paid man $800 for place in queue to buy $100k of original iPhones before realizing expensive mistake appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
