Woman’s driving test fail was for something she didn’t even know was wrong, everyone agrees it’s unfair

This woman’s driving test fail was for a reason she didn’t even know was wrong – and plenty of people agree with her that it was unfair.

Linda Karam filmed herself picking up the results for her driving test and shared it to TikTok.

She was anxious about her parallel parking, but it was another factor altogether that led to her failure.

People on TikTok were just as surprised as her.

Why this woman’s driving test fail left everyone scratching their heads

Linda Karam decided to film herself as she picked up her driving test results, and she was visibly nervous.

Which is no big surprise – there’s a lot of pressure that comes with this kind of thing.

She’s no doubt spent a lot of money and a lot of time behind the wheel to get to this point.

So Karam undoubtedly was on edge.

Unfortunately, the results she received didn’t put her at ease, as she’d failed.

And once she found out why, she was left confused.

It turned out that she’d failed for turning the steering wheel whilst the car was parked, in a move that is otherwise known as ‘dry steering’.

“Now I’m in actual tears,” she lamented, as she left the test center.

“I actually could cry right now…I failed not because of the parking.

“The parking was okay – I lost 10 points for dry steering.

“What does that even mean?!

“No one told me you could fail because of that!

“Who re-does parallel parking four times?!”

In the comments section of the video, people were quick to lend their sympathies to Karam.

One viewer commented: “Go to a different instructor, there’s zero reason you should’ve failed.”

“You are most definitely not allowed to fail from dry steering,” another wrote.

Many even insisted they’d been taught to dry steer, whilst others said they’d never heard the term before.

Dry steering is not recommended, as it can put pressure on the steering components of a car.

As noted by Valley Driving School, it can lead to ‘premature wear and damage’.

“When the car is stationary, turning the wheel essentially scrubs the tires against the road surface, which can cause significant wear, and even tearing if small stones are present,” the website noted.

The question of whether it’s a mistake you can fail on in a driving test isn’t as clear cut.

On the Mr. Tyre website, it said: “The good news is that dry steering is not counted as a fault during a driving test.

“You are allowed to dry steer when it’s necessary for a manoeuvre and you will not be penalized for it. However, it’s still recommended that you don’t dry steer during a test if you can help it.”

Learning to drive is no easy feat

Our hearts go out to Karam – learning to drive is tough, and passing the test is even worse.

Whether it’s an American taking on the UK equivalent or a Swedish learner going through his country’s exam, it’s rough.

Even cartoon characters like SpongeBob Squarepants have felt the pressure.

But some people still manage to have fun with the whole learner driver thing – like this pro-driver who pretended to be an amateur and gave his instructor a fright by drifting.

In any other circumstance, that would definitely be a driving test fail!
