World’s fastest four-cylinder car will absolutely smoke almost any V8 it comes up against

This is the BAC Mono R, the fastest four-cylinder car in the world.
It’s quite powerful, but the main reason why it’s so fast is that it’s very light.
It would smoke most V8 supercars.
But the price… It’ll make you wince

The world’s fastest four-cylinder car does 0-60 faster than most hypercars
The BAC Mono – they even made a hydrogen prototype – has been around for a while, but the BAC Mono R is a bit more recent.
Unveiled in 2019, the Mono R is 38hp more powerful than the ‘standard’ Mono, and 25kg lighter.
Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 343hp, and the car only weighs 555kg.
The power-to-weight ratio is 618hp per ton.
It does 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, faster than nearly every car on the planet, and it has a top speed of 170mph.
With no windshield.
Imagine that.
Unfortunately, it isn’t cheap.
Only 40 will ever be made, with a starting price of £218,000 – equivalent to $295,000.
Are automakers… ‘un-downsizing’?
For a long time, automakers were downsizing, mainly to meet emission standards.
The idea was to replace big V12s with smaller supercharged and/or turbocharged V8s, and V8s with smaller V6s, often with electric power as well.
However, this trend has kind of slowed down now.
It would probably be unfair to say automakers are now all of a sudden upsizing; we can say they’re sort of ‘un-downsizing’ – not a real word, of course, but you get the idea.
The fact of the matter is that customers want what they want.
This is why Ram had to bring back the V8.
It’s also why Mercedes had to do the same for some models, because the four-cylinder AMG engine was simply not driving sales. The post World’s fastest four-cylinder car will absolutely smoke almost any V8 it comes up against appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
