Watch out, Rimac – there’s a new electric supercar on the block.
What’s surprising is that said EV hails from China, which isn’t necessarily a country with a pedigree of producing supercars.
But before you dismiss it on those grounds, there’s something you should know.

GAC Aion’s Hyper SSR isn’t your typical electric supercar.
Yes, it boasts an eye-watering 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time.
What’s more surprising, though, is its price tag – but more on that later.
The new electric supercar features an all-wheel drive system with outputs of 1,206 horsepower and 907 lb-ft of torque.
That’s enough power to propel the Hyper SSR from 0-100 km/h in a claimed 2.3 seconds for the base spec, and 1.9 seconds for the two higher-spec models.
Apparently, the Hyper SSR’s top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph) which isn’t exactly supercar fast, but it ticks the other performance boxes.
Power’s supplied by a 74.69 kWh ternary lithium battery pack giving the Hyper SSR electric supercar a claimed range of 506 km (314 miles).
The SSR features full carbon-fiber construction, although the Chinese EV maker hasn’t specified a kerb weight.
The electric supercar also features double wishbone suspension front and rear with adjustable dampers, and all models come with an e-LSD and carbon-ceramic brakes.
The top-spec model even gets a “specially” tuned chassis and exterior styling to enhance the Hyper SSR’s track credibility.
On the inside, occupants are treated to an interior with plenty of soft-touch leather surfaces, as well as heated and cooled leather bucket seats.
There’s also a 14.6-inch infotainment screen which dominates the interior, complemented by an 8.88-inch LCD display in front of the driver.
Now for the all-important bit – the electric supercar’s price tag.
The Hyper SSR is available from just under 1.286 million yuan ($175,000) in base spec, extending to 1.686 million yuan ($230,000) for the Ultimate Track Edition.
That means it undercuts its closest European rivals by a healthy margin, with the Rimac Nevera, Pininfarina Battista and Lotus Evija all costing north of $1.2 million.
