Man pays a fortune for dream Mustang – becomes a nightmare

Today’s car story comes to us from the guys over at the Gearhead Garage Inc. YouTube channel.

Unfortunately, it isn’t exactly the kind of joyous story we usually love sharing.

Recently, a man bought a replica of the car of his dreams – the 1967 Eleanor Mustang.

Although he spent $135,000 on the car, the owner knew he was buying a replica.

What he did not know, however, was just how bad a car he’d just bought.

30 miles after driving away, the owner’s dream turned into the mother of all nightmares.

The driveshaft fell onto the road, ripping out the brake line and breaking the transmission.

Thankfully, the owner was able to trailer his car to an auto shop in Sacramento, California.

But it was there that the full scale of the issues at hand was revealed – it was a shock for everyone.

One month and over $12,000 later….

As it turns out, this replica Eleanor Mustang was absolutely rotten under the skin.

First, the entire rear end of the car had to be rebuilt – because there was zero fluid in it.

Jason, from the YouTube channel, helped rebuild the rear end and rebalanced the driveshaft.

As you might remember, the transmission also got destroyed; this was because it was improperly installed.

Therefore, the five-speed gearbox had to be completely rebuilt from scratch. YouTube Video

Apart from those small issues, the replica Mustang also needed a new fuel line.

This was because the existing fuel line got pinched when the driveshaft fell onto the road.

Strangely, the only part of the car that actually appeared to be in good working order was the engine.

Jason thought it might be the 347 cubic-inch V8, but he couldn’t prove that.

He would have needed to tear the engine apart – but rightly, he didn’t want to tempt fate.

Sadly, this experience provides an important lesson – don’t make emotional, expensive purchases. The post Classic car buyer left stunned after $135K Mustang falls apart appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
