Divers enter Chicago river to investigate 1970 cold case and end up discovering 97 cars

Divers entered the Chicago River to investigate a 1970 cold case and ended up discovering 97 cars.

A team of teams entered the river in search of a couple that went missing 55 years ago.

They didn’t find anything to help the case, but they did uncover 97 cars nestled on the riverbed between Cicero Avenue and Diversey Parkway.

What were these cars, and what were they doing down there?

Divers ended up discovering 97 cars at the bottom of the Chicago River

Back in 1970, Edward and Stephania Andrews went missing after leaving a cocktail party in their 1969 Oldsmobile 442.

The couple hasn’t been seen since, and their case remains unsolved.

A team of divers decided to head into the Chicago River to see if they could get any closer to closing the case.

They didn’t find anything linked to the Andrews, but they did wind up discovering 97 cars.

Jason Grubbs, the founder of Chaos Divers, said that finding cars in water is nothing new.

But the sheer scale of this discovery was unlike anything they’d ever seen before.

75 of the vehicles have been inspected so far, but none have been connected to the Andrews case.

Police divers had to assist at one point in removing a Nissan, which was obstructing boat traffic.

Years of being banged by barges had left it severely crumpled.

The 1970 cold case of the missing Edwards remains open at this point in time.

It’s long been suspected that the couple crashed into the River on the way home from their party.

This isn’t the first time a car has been found underwater

We’ve seen cars underwater before, but admittedly not 97 of them at a time.

One drowned Porsche was given a new lease on life after it was resurrected from a river.

It was a similar story for this drowned Lamborghini Aventador.

But it’s not just cars sitting down beneath the waves – one girl and her dad discovered a shipwreck while fishing.

And who could forget Amelia Earhart’s lost plane? The post Divers enter Chicago river to investigate 1970 cold case and end up discovering 97 cars appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
