Pope Leo XIV adds divine horsepower by signing BMW bike for auction

Pope Leo XIV has a connection to a BMW Motorrad R18 Transcontinental bike that you might not have had on your bingo card for today.

Cardinal Robert Prevost, a Chicago native, has been very popular among the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.

One of the Pope’s most popular recent roles has been to bless and approve various automobiles.

And Pope Leo XIV has just done that – by signing a BMW bike currently going up for auction.

BMW Motorrad produces a truly special motorcycle

Today’s two-wheeled story comes with a (literal) touch of the divine.

In this case, it is a white motorcycle that has passed through the Vatican itself.

BMW Motorrad is one of the world’s premier motorcycle divisions.

The two-wheeled wing is responsible for building some of the world’s greatest motorcycles.

Its S1000RR, for example, is considered one of the top sports bikes on the planet.

But one of its other popular, albeit very different, options is the R18 Transcontinental.

And it is this particular bike that has been presented to His Holiness for his personal approval.

BMW Motorrad is currently preparing the mother-of-pearl white R18 Transcontinental for charity.

‘Peace Ride’ ends with meeting Pope Leo XIV

Earlier this month, a special ceremony event was held at the Vatican.

It was held to celebrate the end of a ‘Peace Ride’ that the R18 Transcontinental had been on.

The journey had started in Sennfeld, Germany, before ending in Rome.

It was then presented to the American-born pontiff for his signature and approval.

This particular motorcycle comes with ‘Leo XIV’ badging on the engine, as well as the Vatican coat of arms.

Various spellings of the word ‘peace’ in different languages can also be seen.

The motorcycle is going on display at the BMW Welt Museum in Munich later this month.

It will then be auctioned off by Sotheby’s in October for various charities based in Madagascar.
