Dodge has created a really clever way to stop their discontinued cars being stolen

Dodge has introduced a super smart way of making sure its Dodge Charger and Challenger vehicles don’t get stolen.

Unfortunately, car theft is an all-too-common part of life.

However, Dodge has recently launched a new theft-deterrent system for its iconic Charger and Challenger models that will give added peace of mind.

The Start Defender works alongside existing security measures and works as ‘two-factor authentication for your car.

The new system works with Dodge Charger and Challengers

When it comes to muscle cars, the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger are about as iconic as they come, which led to many broken hearts when the marque announced it would be discontinuing them in 2023.

However, the cars’ desirability also makes them an unfortunate target for thieves

In a bid to prevent thefts, Dodge has recently unveiled its Start Defender, which works with 2018 to 2023 model-year Charger and Challenger vehicles.

The CAN-based starting circuit interrupt system basically ‘enables two-factor authentication’ – like you have with banking apps and social media platforms – but for your car.

Start Defender, which was created by Dodge’s performance parts brand Direct Connection, works by allowing the owner to set up a secure code that they can input using the buttons on the steering wheel.

Unless the correct code is entered, the car won’t start – even if you have the key. Clever stuff.

It’s super simple to install and use

The Start Defender is connected to a private, encrypted Wi-Fi network and has a website where you can set up and manage the system.

The carmaker says the device is simple enough to set up and can be installed by a mechanic or self-installed without the need for any special tools or expertise.

Up to four different codes – or sequences – can be added so multiple drivers can use it, and the device can also be disabled for times when you’re not able to enter it, like when you want to make use of valet parking or is at a dealership having a service.

It also doesn’t damage or alter any of the vehicle’s original equipment systems.

“The Direct Connection Start Defender theft-deterrent system is another tool to help HEMI-powered Dodge Charger and Challenger owners protect their muscle cars and have a little more peace of mind,” said Dodge CEO Matt McAlear.

The Start Defender costs $695 and is available through Direct Connection – a small price to pay to keep your muscle car safe. The post Dodge has created a really clever way to stop their discontinued cars being stolen appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
