Everything you need to know about the McLaren 650S

The McLaren 650S supercar was formally unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and has been wowing car lovers ever since.

Powered by 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8s, the 650S can reach 60MPH in under three seconds, and achieve a top speed of 207MPH.

But speed isn’t all this sports car has to offer.

In both looks and performance, the 650S is top of the class.

McLaren 650S Coupe

We’ve seen the McLaren 650S in a lot of different settings over the years

One man converted it using budget parts from China, while another installed a Temu body kit onto his.

In a similar scenario, a guy bought his back to life with an eBay engine.

But at the fundamental level, what is there to know about the car itself?

It was first announced all the way back in February 2014, debuting at the Geneva Motor Show later that year.

It was built on the MP4-12C with 25 percent new parts.

Much like the car it was based around, it has a carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer chassis.

The interior is also pretty remarkable.

McLaren’s website gushed that ‘every millimeter of the 650S’s Carbon Black Alcantra interior has been meticulously optimized for maximum driving pleasure and unparalleled comfort’.

But this is no mere show car.

The wheel is modeled after those used in the F1 cars, with ‘no buttons or switches to diminish the purity of interaction between man and machine’.

In terms of speed, it ranks up there with the fastest released by the British manufacturer.

It can do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 207MPH (333KMH).

650S Spider

The Spider is a convertible version of the car, and weighs 40KG more than the Coupe.

Despite this, nothing has been sacrificed in terms of performance.

It can reach 60MPH in three seconds and has a top speed of 204MPH (329KMH).

On its website, McLaren described the Spider as ‘one step further’ than its Coupe counterpart.

The retractable hardtop ‘retains the 650S’s breathtaking dynamics while opening you up to a whole new dimension of driving enjoyment’.

As a show of dedication, it took McLaren’s engineers six months to drop the roof’s weight from 50KG to 40KG.

And it’ll only take you 17 seconds to drop the roof.
