An abandoned museum filled with classic cars and a Ford GT40 has been discovered in Texas, hidden in plain sight for more than a decade.
The museum was shut in 2014 and everything inside was left behind.
Trophies, photographs, and vehicles belonging to its founder, Tom Mitchell, remain locked away.
This forgotten collection has become one of the most striking finds in American automotive history.

Abandoned museum locked in time
The discovery was documented in a video by Stinger Media on YouTube.
Mitchell built the Circle Bar Truck Corral in 1974, a site that included a motel, RV park, and store.
Alongside this business, he invested in motorsport, sponsoring drivers in NASCAR and the Indianapolis 500.
His growing interest in cars led to the creation of a museum, where he displayed both his racing vehicles and restored classic cars.
When Mitchell died in 2014, the property was sold and the auto museum was closed with its contents still inside.
His family occasionally returned to check on the site but over time it was left untouched.
The abandoned museum became a sealed time capsule of racing history.
Inside are cars that once carried Mitchell’s name in professional racing, as well as vehicles he collected.
Among the most notable is a Ford GT40, widely regarded as one of the most important race cars ever built.
A Shelby Cobra, a restored Ford Bronco, and several classic cars from his teams also sit inside.
Racing trophies, helmets, and Indianapolis Motor Speedway tickets remain on display, part of a forgotten collection that has survived through neglect rather than care.
The vehicles vary in condition. Some sit on flat tires while others rest on lifts, showing little use since the museum closed.
Dust and cobwebs cover much of the collection, but the building itself has shielded the cars from harsher damage.
Despite the passing years, the abandoned museum still holds its classic cars largely intact.
Forgotten collection at risk
The collection reflects Mitchell’s wide interests.
Alongside the Ford GT40 and classic cars, there are boats, dirt bikes, and ATVs that remain scattered across the property.
Together they show how he invested his fortune in machines of all kinds.
What happens next to this forgotten collection remains uncertain.
Like many private museums, its future was left in question after the death of its founder.
Without proper preservation even the Ford GT40 and Shelby Cobra could deteriorate beyond repair.
Some cars show signs of scavenging while others appear untouched.
The abandoned museum now stands as a record of one man’s passion and a warning about the fragility of automotive history.
Whether restored, sold, or left to fade, the classic cars and trophies inside form a story of American racing that continues to wait behind closed doors. The post Forgotten auto museum hides priceless race cars, classics, and even a GT40 appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
