He rescued his dream BMW for $33 and brought it back from the dead

Most of us have a dream car of some kind, but may never get to drive one in our lifetime.

This British man, however, managed to pick up a BMW 635CSI for the princely sum of £25 (USD $33).

While the car naturally required repairs to run properly, it was still a steal, considering a brand new BMW 6 Series today would cost you at least $90,000.

The question is, how did he do it?

Taylor from Taylor Made Cars revealed in his first YouTube video how he saved his dream BMW.

He said he found the BMW abandoned in a council garage in the UK when he was only 20 years old.

With the car destined for the scrapyard, he made the decision to rescue it from its dire fate.

In his video, Taylor also addressed most people’s number one question: how easy is it to claim an abandoned car?

After all, it’s apparently possible to find an abandoned garage littered with supercars.

Well, at least in the UK, there are quite a few steps, especially if you want to avoid legal problems.

Firstly, he thoroughly researched the car and the land it was parked on, ensuring that it wasn’t private property or being rented.

After doing his research, he found that the garage housing the gem hadn’t been paid for in the past 13 years.

He discovered the car also hadn’t been insured, taxed, or claimed by anyone, making its background a mystery.

He also tried his best to contact the previous owner, although with so few details, he didn’t manage to make any headway.

With the garage itself due to be demolished, Taylor decided to go ahead and rescue his dream BMW, paying only £25 ($33).

Quite an easy choice, unlike this other person who had to decide whether $15,000 was worth it to rescue an abandoned Porsche 911.

However, the car’s initial condition was far from ideal.

For starters, the rear windows were smashed, and there was glass everywhere.

The engine also had issues in the beginning, although once Taylor replaced the battery and added some gas, it fired up surprisingly easily.

All of this happened 11 years ago, and Taylor has made quite a few modifications since.

For one, he replaced all the wheels and the rear windows (which were smashed), and gave the car a full respray.

The lights, trims and spoiler were entirely original, although he replaced the exhaust.

Taylor also fitted BMW E24 Recaro seats into the interior, and replaced the original steering wheel with a BMW M Tech1 model.

The most major alteration, perhaps, was the change from an automatic transmission to a five-speed manual, proving that he was not baffled by how a ‘stick shift’ worked.

So what made this Taylor’s dream BMW?

For one, it was packed with features, especially for a car that was from the 1980s.

Taylor even had the original bill of sale, revealing that it was sold for £35,000, at a time when £25,000 could get you an apartment in North London.

For him, getting a BMW for the price of a sit-down meal was truly a dream come true.

“I will never part ways with it. I’ll die before I sell this car,” Taylor said.
