Lamborghini confirms its V12 engine is staying in production until well beyond 2030

Lamborghini has confirmed it will continue making its V12 engine isn’t going anywhere as it plans to keep it in production beyond 2030.

Back in 2023, the carmaker said it planned to keep the V12 engine in production until 2030.

But in an update, Lamborghini product line director Matteo Ortenzi said the powerful 12-cylinder engine is a ‘signature’ for the brand.

As such, he says it’s staying put and will be in production beyond 2030.

Lamborghini says its V12 engine isn’t going anywhere

It’s fair to say that Lamborghini has had a bit of a bumpy start when it comes to electrification.

Its first-ever EV, the Lamborghini Lanzador, was announced to much fanfare during Monterey Car Week in 2023 and was slated to go into production in 2030.

Lamborghini was also reported to be working on a fully-electric Urus, tipped to be released in 2029.

However, last month, the carmaker said it was pushing back plans for an EV Urus, with CEO Stephen Winklemann announcing it might not be launched until 2035.

It was also revealed that its first-ever EV might not be an EV after all, but could launch with a hybrid powertrain instead.

Now, Lamborghini product line director Matteo Ortenzi has confirmed the company is planning on keeping its V12 engine through into 2030 and beyond.

“The horizon for us is even more than 2030 now,” he told Motor1

“It’s part of the character of [the Revuelto], we like the responsiveness of the engine, it’s a signature for us, so we don’t want to change it.”

He suggested that the Revuelot’s hybrid system could be a way to keep making the V12 engine while still complying with emission regulations.

“This allows us to comply with the legislation, especially in CO2 and emissions, which would be difficult to comply with if we did not have this kind of technology,” he added.

Lamborghini plans to keep making ICE vehicles for as long as possible

Ortenzi’s comments come just weeks after Lamborghini’s chief technical officer, Rouven Mohr, said the marque was hoping to hold on to ICE vehicles for as long as it could

“If you speak about the future of combustion for sure, for us, we are aiming to continue as long as possible,” Mohr said.

“We still think that we have a lot of ideas to transport, let me say, the combustion future.”The post Lamborghini confirms its V12 engine is staying in production until well beyond 2030 appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
