Lamborghini doesn’t care if the future is electric, they’re keeping the gas

Lamborghini has said it plans to keep making gas-powered cars for as ‘as long as possible’ and thinks ICE vehicles still have a lot of potential.

Lamborghini unveiled its Lanzador EV concept car back in 2023.

It was later announced that the Lanzador would be the first production EV from Lamborghini.

It was initially slated to go into production in 2028, but that’s since been pushed back to 2029.

And it seems that despite the automaker tentatively dipping its toe into the world of EVs with the upcoming 2030 Lanzador, it won’t be saying goodbye to gas any time soon.

Fellow luxury marque Ferrari is poised to launch its first EV in October this year, but Lamborghini appears happy to take its time.

In an interview with Car Expert, Lamborghini’s chief technical officer, Rouven Mohr, said the emotional experience of driving one of their cars is what sets Lamborghini apart.

And the team is in no rush to rock the boat by launching an EV and potentially dulling that experience.

“If you speak about the future of combustion for sure, for us, we are aiming to continue as long as possible,” Mohr said.

“We still think that we have a lot of ideas to transport, let me say, the combustion future.”

Mohr made the comments during a technical briefing on the upcoming 2026 Temerario, which comes with a hybrid powertrain comprising a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors.

Mohr went on to say that holding onto ICE vehicles was important to the brand.

“We are the pinnacle in emotion – that’s what we’re aiming to be,” he told the publication.

“You know, therefore for us, it’s fundamental that we try to continue [internal combustion power].”

While it’s held off from EVs, Lamborghini has embraced hybrid powertrains.

It launched the Revuelto, the first super sports V12 hybrid, in 2023, and the Urus SE in 2024.

And the hybrids are selling well for the marque, the Urus SE is sold out until 2026, and the Revuelto until 2027.

Although not planning a fully electric line-up in the near future, the carmaker is forging ahead with becoming greener, and has committed to becoming net carbon neutral by 2050. The post Lamborghini doesn’t care if the future is electric, they’re keeping the gas appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
