After six years and 85,000 miles, Tesla Model 3 owner reveals what it really cost him

The owner of a Tesla Model 3 has revealed how much the EV has cost him after six years of ownership and 85,000 miles on the clock.

He bought the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus brand new in 2019.

Since then, he’s put around 85,000 miles on the odometer.

Six years after first buying the car, he’s decided to share the real costs of keeping the car up and running.

With more EV owners than ever before, we’ve seen plenty of motorists keen to share how their electric cars have held up over the years, and miles.

A fellow Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus owner recently shared his breakdown after 200,000, and one guy revealed how his batteries held up after more than a million miles on the clock

In a video on YouTube, Tesla Model 3 owner ZachOnTheCharge shared the real costs of owning his EV for six years, ‘specifically from a maintenance and wear standpoint’.

Zach started off by saying one of the most common things he’s asked about his six-year-old EV is how the battery is faring.

He revealed that his car’s battery has lost around 12 percent, so it is sitting at 88 percent of its original battery capacity.

However, he goes on to say that he’s not concerned about it as he tends to use his car for shorter trips, so a huge amount of range isn’t required, and he’s happy to use a Supercharger to ‘fill up’ quickly when he does need.

Moving on to energy consumption, he said the Tesla Model 3 does around one mile per 250 watts and it costs around 14 cents per kWh to charge it at home.

He then compared that to the price of gas and said he could do around 91 miles for the same price of one gallon of gas.

Not bad, right?

Next up, he talked about the wear and tear on the EV’s tires. Prior to buying the Tesla Model 3, Zach admitted he had heard bad things about how short the lifespan of its tires would be.

But said that wasn’t the case for him.

He got a new set of tires at 55,000 miles, and he hopes to get similar mileage with his current ones.

Zach said the new tires were the biggest expense, but noted that he would have had to replace them on a gas-powered car anyway.

He also had to replace the 12-volt battery after five years, which cost $114. YouTube Video

Other than that, Zach says the car has been cheap to run and he reckons it’s stayed in great condition with minimal maintenance.

“The car still feels new to me, it feels like I’m driving a new car,” he said. “I’ve been really pleased with it. The entire time I’ve owned this car, it’s been enjoyable.”
