Man likes to buy the Ferraris nobody else will and even uses them as daily drivers

This man likes to buy the Ferraris that nobody else will touch and even uses some as his daily driver.

Scott Chivers, known online as Ratarossa, is the proud owner of several Ferraris.

His love for the Italian brand started early, when he saw a competition to win a 308 on the back page of a magazine.

As a 42-year-old man, he is now a Ferrari nut, and even uses one of them to take his kids to school.

The man who buys the Ferraris no-one else will

Scott Chivers, known on YouTube as Ratarossa, is passionate about Ferraris.

When Ferrari has such admirers like Pope John Paul, who can argue with it as a brand?

Chivers has taken on several Ferrari projects in the past, including a 512BBi that sat for 12 years in a barn, and a 512BBi that once belonged to a Saudi prince.

But what are Chivers’ favorites among his haul and where did his love for the brand come from?

Speaking to Autocar, he opened up about the roots of his fascination.

Seeing a competition for a 308 on the back pages of Reader’s Digest was a turning point for the young boy.

Around that time, his dad was dreaming of owning the 246 Dino, and the video game OutRun had been released, which featured a Testarossa Spider.

All those factors combined to make Chivers a lover of the Prancing Horse.

Following on from his first purchase of a 348 Spider, he continued to accumulate Ferraris.

Among the cars collected at his house in Berkshire, England, are two 355s, a Testarossa he nicknamed the Ratarossa, a 360 Challenge Stradale, three 308s, and a 456 GTA.

Chivers explained his buying philosophy, which might not be what you’re expecting.

“I’m the guy who buys the Ferrari you shouldn’t: the one with uncertain history, in the wrong colour, or the unfinished project.

“They’re relatively cheap to buy, and I make a profit selling them on when I’ve sorted them out. I plough the money back into the collection,” he concluded.

One might be tempted to say the YouTuber is buying the runts of the litter, so to speak.

But these are still great cars, especially once Chivers is done working on them.

Which one is his daily driver?

Not all of the cars that came to him were ‘orphans’ though.

Take his 430 Scuderia, for instance.

“[It was] immaculate. I owned it for three months and then sold it, making £25,000.

“I added £3,000 and straight away bought a left-hand-drive F355,” Chivers explained.

But one car held the distinction of being his daily driver – a black 360 Challenge Stradale.

“I’ve owned it for eight years and done 50,000 miles in it. I go to the shops and take my kids to school in it.

“I love the fact it’s used – and looks it,” he said.
