This man was able to install solar panels illegal in 49 other states by taking advantage of a new Utah bill.
YouTuber JerryRigEverything was taking full advantage of Utah bill 340 to power up his house in an environmentally friendly way.
This bill allowed people to use plug-in solar panels to give themselves ‘free power’.
But with Utah being the only state to have made this legal so far, Jerry and his fellow Utahns are ahead of the curve.

This Utah man decided to install solar panels illegal in 49 other states
Jerry’s solar panels worked via a standard plug and wall outlet, ‘no complicated wiring required’.
He was able to use this thanks to Utah Bill 340.
This bill, signed into law on March 25 by Governor Spencer Cox, introduces a new category for small portable solar generation devices.
This allows Utah residents to integrate plug-in solar systems into their homes more easily.
The bill passed unanimously in both the Utah House and Senate, reflecting broad support.
As noted by both Jerry and cleantechnica, this law change is similar to what has happened in Germany, where balcony solar systems are increasingly used.
This allows people living in apartments or with limited space to reduce their own electricity costs while helping the environment.
Under Utah’s new law, residents are allowed to take up to 1,200 watts of solar panels – four of them – and plug them into a wall outlet in their home.
Surprisingly, Utah is so far the only state to have legalized this ‘plug-and-play system’.
Jerry described this as the ‘easiest solar panel installation’ he’d ever done.
“I, for one, am a huge fan of Utah’s new law,” he declared.
“Hopefully, some day the rest of the States can enjoy what we’re enjoying.”
Because, without a bill, it makes those solar panels illegal.
The rise of solar energy is evident everywhere
As more and more people become conscious about climate change, they’re looking into alternative ways to power their homes.
But it’s not just the homes that are being charged – one man in San Francisco used solar panels to power his EVs whilst they’re parked at home.
In the UK, the government is considering installing parking lots in solar farms, benefiting both residents and businesses.
There’s even solar-powered cars and yachts out there.
There’s never been a better time to go green – especially if you’re living in Utah.
