More miles are covered in EVs than in gas-powered cars in the UK, a study has revealed.

While EV usage and uptake are slowing in the United States, the opposite is true in the UK, as more and more people look to convert from combustion power to electric power.

The data shows that despite a slowdown across the Atlantic, Brits are still keen to capitalize on the booming EV market, which is filled with more and more options.

In fact, the numbers behind the EV movement in Britain make for some truly interesting reading.

How far are Brits travelling with electric cars?

The study into how many miles Brits travel via EV versus combustion was conducted by the RAC Foundation.

According to them, in 2024, battery electric vehicles less than three years old averaged 10,054 miles a year.

That compares to 7,585 miles in gas-powered cars, making a 32.6 percent increase in miles driven via EVs.

However, diesel-powered cars continued to be dominant in the United Kingdom.

On average, they completed 10,728 miles, but that is only 6.7 percent more than BEVs.

The trend towards EVs is certainly positive, and their popularity in the UK has been growing since 2016.

That is despite uncertainty around charging infrastructure and consumers’ range anxiety.

What has made EVs so popular in Britain?

One reason for the EV popularity in the UK is the use of fleet vehicles, rather than private drivers.

Major companies in the country are turning to EVs to power their fleets of vehicles.

This includes Amazon, DPD, and more, which use electric vans for parcel delivery.

That in turn has led to more individual buyers considering their own electric car.

Charging infrastructure in the UK is getting more widespread, eliminating that worry.

Plus, the range of EVs has increased over the years, so range anxiety is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

With fuel prices also higher than they were a few years ago, the cheaper alternative of an EV is proving popular.

Despite some manufacturers backing down on EVs, it’s clear that they are here to stay in the United Kingdom. The post More miles are covered in EVs than in gas-powered cars in the UK appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
