The 2025.20 Tesla software update is set to introduce some new features, and also hints at a brand-new Tesla Model Y.
The EV maker regularly releases software updates, bug fixes, and features to improve its vehicles.
The latest Tesla software update, 2025.20, is currently being rolled out, and the release notes make for interesting reading.
They detail some neat new functions coming to the car as well as seemingly confirming a new Model Y is in the works.

The carmaker’s over-the-air (OTA) software updates allow owners to update and improve their vehicle without the hassle of going into a dealership.
Previous updates have included things like a ‘night curfew’ for parents to stop their kids from driving late at night, and this useful hands-free trunk feature.
The 2025.20 Tesla software update began rolling out last week and folks have already been trawling through the release notes to see what’s in store.
In a post on X @greentheonly revealed that Grok will be coming as a personal assistant in EVs and will have a range of ‘personalities’, including Argumentative and Romantic.
The EV enthusiast went on to say the feature will be available on cars powered by AMD Ryzen MCU, which means older Teslas that are Intel-powered won’t be getting the update.
There will also be a feature that makes navigation suggestions to conserve energy in your EV. Smart stuff.
The EV will gather data from the wider fleet and show the driver the average speed for that particularly part of the journey, before showing how much power the motorist could save by slowing down.

However, perhaps the most intriguing update is the one that appears to confirm a six-seater Model Y is on the way.
References to a six-seater model Y were found in the Tesla software update by @greentheonly.
The car’s configuration would most likely be a 2x2x2 seat layout, with speculation that the second-row bench could be replaced by two spacious captain’s chairs.
It had previously been rumored that a six-seater Model Y may be coming to the Chinese market but nothing official has been confirmed.
But the software updates release notes appear to be the strongest confirmation yet that a new Model Y is on the way.
