It seems that the new kid on the block is very popular as the new Huawei Shangjie H5 SUV racks up 50k pre‑orders within 18 hours in China.

China has a very tech-forward atmosphere, and with the popularity of local EV producers spreading not only across China itself, but the whole world, like BYD and now Huawei’s move from tech to EVs.

Part of the new Huawei Shangjie H5 SUV’s popularity could be attributed to the fact that the Chinese EVs are so much cheaper than Tesla’s.

Just because it’s cheaper than a Tesla doesn’t mean it’s lacking in cool and advanced technology, coming under the Harmony Mobility Alliance and using advanced LiDAR sensor tech, too.

Amongst the Teslas, BYDs, and Xiaomi’s of the world, tech company turned EV automaker, Huawei, has announced its new release, the Shangjie H5 SUV.

Pre-ordering has now opened, and the electric SUV has already racked up 50,000 pre‑orders within 18 hours. So it looks like the new kid on the block is very popular indeed.

It’s clearly a play by the tech company to take advantage of the affordable mid-sized vehicle market, especially as the Shangjie H5 SUV is just so darn affordable.

The starting price for the Chinese EV is around $23,600, but a Tesla Model 3 New Long-Range RWD retails for $37,490, meaning that it’s no surprise that they’re already selling like hot cakes.

Tesla Tech, Huawei prices

Just because the Shangjie H5 SUV is cheaper than some of its Western-built counterparts, it doesn’t make it any less packed full of technological advancements.

It comes with LiDAR sensors, multi-screen interaction, an AI voice assistant, and something called a ‘Harmony Cockpit experience’ for connected driving.

It’s powered by Huawei’s ADS 4 advanced driving system and HarmonyOS infotainment platform and is Huawei’s fifth EV brand under its Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA).

Tesla better watch its back, because it looks like the Shangjie H5 SUV is coming for its crown.
