This nuclear-powered car created by a NYC designer is a WTF concept.
And that’s not solely because it’s a strange idea, it’s also in the name.
This is the Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept, also known as the WTF, designed by Loren Kulesus back in 2009.
But being powered by a nuclear reactor isn’t even the weirdest thing about this car.

The WTF nuclear car concept from back in 2009
We’ve seen a lot of weird cars over the years.
There was the Toyota Pod, which had a tail and could register emotions from the driver.
Then there was the six-wheeled Covini C6W.
And who could forget the Brubaker Box, the dune buggy-custom van hybrid from all the way back in 1972?
Even beloved TV staples have their share of odd cars, as The Simpsons demonstrated.
Well, joining this motley crew of automobiles is the Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept, or WTF.
You might think it’s harsh to say this was a WTF concept, but it quite literally is.
For a start, this concept car is nuclear-powered.
Not the most common of fuel sources, admittedly – we’ve seen gas, electric, and hydrogen go mainstream, but not nuclear.
But if you can believe it, that’s the least of this car’s peculiarities.
Taking a closer look at the Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept
The idea behind the WTF was that it would last for 100 years without needing maintenance.
The hope was that Thorium would be used as a nuclear fuel to power the batteries.
Although nuclear energy has its uses, it has not been deemed possible to harness it for the purposes of powering a car.
If you think about a nuclear power plant, you’ll recall how they’re secure locations with tons of insulation.
Unless you were to put cement around the car’s engine, having nuclear power would pose a health risk to anybody in the vehicle
But we digress.
You may be thinking, ‘Okay, maybe the source isn’t practical, but what’s the rest of the car like?’
Well, there’s no rubber tires.
There are six individual wheels located at each of the corners of the car, making for 24 wheels in total.
That’s right – 24.
And each one has an induction motor.
Yeah, WTF indeed.
Suffice it to say, this concept never made it past the design stage.
We can only imagine the costs that would come with this idea, should it ever have rolled out of a factory.
Despite the name, Cadillac doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the idea, as reported by car blogger Chris Null.
Whatever the case may be, this concept isn’t coming to your local car dealership anytime soon. The post Nuclear-powered car created by NYC designer is literally a WTF concept appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
