This American has revealed the surprising cost difference of a road trip in his Tesla Cybertruck vs how much it would have cost him in a gas-powered truck.
During the drive from West Palm Beach to Tampa Bay and back, the Cybertruck needed to be charged more than once to cover the distance.
Charging time aside, he also needed to plan where he would fill up to get himself back, too.
But when he did the math to figure out just how much the same journey would have cost in gas, the figures shocked him.

EV charging costs vs gas costs
With the rise of EVs, many Americans are making the jump from gas-powered cars to electric.
The switch often comes with the promise of cheaper charging costs and sustainability.
But after his road trip across Florida, one man discovered this wasn’t always the case.
YouTuber Flying Wheels decided to take a road trip across Florida in a Cybertruck to see just how much it would hurt his wallet.
After charging the Cybertruck, he called his mom to find out what it cost her to fill up her hybrid car.
His mom told him it cost her just $27, which got her over 400 miles out of the tank.
And in his wife’s gas Escalade? It would have cost $58 to get from A to B.
So, how did the Cybertruck compare? It was time to crunch the numbers.
After the YouTuber did the maths, he revealed it cost him roughly $50 to do the road trip.
But there was a caveat to that.
The only reason it was that cheap was because he had taken advantage of a free charging point at his hotel.
“If the hotel didn’t have free charging, it would have actually cost me more to take my electric vehicle to Tampa and back,” he said.
All up, he revealed it cost him roughly $50 to charge the Cybertruck to get him from A to B.
Tesla Cybertruck put in some bizarre tests
This isn’t the first time that a Cybertruck has been put to the test to see if the EV pickup is really worth it.
Some drivers from Maryland managed to drag race a Tesla Cybertruck against a Lamborghini Revuelto in a battle of electric vs. hybrid.
Meanwhile, this mechanic with 56 years of experience got his hands on the Cybertruck and explained why it ‘scared’ him.
