One of the Knight Rider cars that David Hasselhoff drove is up for sale, and the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am still drives as well as it did in the eighties.

This 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am wouldn’t usually be anything out of the blue.

But having appeared in the iconic TV show and being handled by the Hoff himself gives this car a whole other level of cool.

How much would KITT be selling for?

The iconic Knight Rider car is up for sale

People of a certain age will remember the iconic show, Knight Rider, which aired between 1982 and 1986.

The American action-crime drama followed Michael Knight, a crime fighter played by David Hasselhoff.

He would fight crime assisted by KITT, an artificially intelligent car – embodied as a 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

At the time of the show’s airing, it wasn’t exactly met with critical acclaim.

One reviewer remarked: “Knight Rider is all revved up but has no place to go, except, maybe, headlong into a large brick wall.”

But in the years since, it’s become something of a cult classic, and fans are particularly fond of 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams as a result.

We’ve seen a fair few of them over the years.

One Knight Rider was made up for a spin-off show called Force III.

Unfortunately, it never aired, despite 60 episodes being filmed.

Then there was the British YouTuber who made his own KITT car, although the police didn’t appreciate it much.

But this KITT is a genuine article, having been owned by Hasselhoff himself.

The Knight Rider Historians dug this out and featured it on their website.

How David Hasselhoff ended up owning this car – and how much it’s going for

When the show first premiered, Hasselhoff traveled the US to promote the show, attending World of Wheels, Autorama, and other car shows.

Pontiac took notice of the show’s growing popularity, so it gifted the actor and his wife two 1983 Pontiac ‘Recaro Edition’ Trans Am cars.

These cars would be enjoyed by the couple for the next two years.

In 1985, Pontiac gave Hasselhoff the 1985 model, which is what is up for sale.

Hasselhoff picked it up at Peninsula Pontiac in Torrance, California, and would own it for five years.

It was sold in the summer of 1990 and remained with its next owner until 2024.

The Knight Rider Historians gave the car a glowing review.

“The motor starts up, idles smoothly & doesn’t smoke. The transmission shifts nice and smooth,” the site listing read.

“This car does not leak any fluids. This car lived its entire life in California. As such, the underside is as rust-free as the body of the car. The bottoms of the doors are rust free as well.”

The car wears a ‘AREUWHO’ license, a nod to people asking Hasselhoff ‘Are you the Knight Rider?’

The car is going for $39,995 or best offer – with a $500 deposit required to hold it.
