A scratch on a Porsche 911 left its owner with a $11,000 dilemma.
An anonymous Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS owner took to Reddit to share of his car woes.
Whilst the scratch itself wasn’t particularly big, the price tag attached to fixing it certainly was.
Originally, he was going to have his insurance pay it off, but some advice had him considering paying the damage in full.

The Porsche 911 scratch that came with a $11,000 dilemma
Fixing a car rarely comes cheap, even less so when it is a Porsche 911.
Even older versions of the car are a joy to drive, and they retain value better than many new cars.
A 911 even became the fastest manual to drive at the Nürburgring in Germany.
But the Porsche being discussed in a recent Reddit post wasn’t flying high by any means.
In fact, it’d sustained a scratch on the front end of the car after a minor incident.
The Porsche had been parked in the driveway of the owner’s son’s friend, when a Subaru reversing down the drive collided with the 911.
It was the son’s friend driving and his parents reimbursed the Redditor for the replacement parts.
It would cost $11,000 to fix.
You may be thinking ‘Oh, that’s a pain, but insurance should cover that, right?’
Yes, but the Reddit user ‘markthelender’ had been advised to go an alternate route in getting his car fixed up.
“Shop owner said that, unless you don’t care, because of the ‘diminished value’ Carfax will peg onto your car if you use insurance,” he wrote.
“He said he operates with a rule of thumb: Pay out of pocket up to $10,000 for every $100,000 of value of the car. More if you happen to have some disposable cash.”
What did people on the Porsche subreddit have to say about this costly expense?
What was Reddit’s verdict?
For the most part, the subreddit seemed to be in broad agreement with the shop owner.
“I hate to say this, but your body shop man gave you some solid advice. I went through a similar situation with the back end of my GT3,” one user wrote.
“Don’t go through insurance, unless you’ve already filed a police report as the value of your car on sale or trade in will drop 10-15 percent,” another said.
“Your guy is giving you good advice,” wrote a fellow Redditor.
It’s not often that Redditors are in such agreement – they were all split over the way this Porsche 911 was protected during a flood. The post One simple scratch on owner’s Porsche 911 led to a $11,000 dilemma appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
