The Louvre Museum in Paris is going to use the concept of augmented reality to offer an immersive experience to the visitors. To do so, the museum teamed with Snap to allow users to experience the Egypt Augmented.  The Egypt Augmented Experience Launching Wednesday, Snap and Louvre Museum combined a five-part AR experience, offering an outstanding historic experience to the visitors. The experience comprises four location-specific experiences including an exterior courtyard and three inside exhibits from the museum’s Department of Egyptian Antiquities. The launch is also going to offer Snap users to use the free face lens feature mainly inspired by the exhibition.  The Egypt Augmented experience was introduced by Snap’s Paris AR Studio 18 months ago, focusing on non-commercial partnerships with institutions. The key motive behind the launch is to educate individuals about the actual potential of AR, mainly in the field of culture and art. Partnerships with cultural institutions and artists will help in changing the perception of individuals for culture as well as AR. “The technology has the power to become monumental, telling stories in a magical way”, said Studio’s director, Donatien Bozon. Louvre Vincent Rondot, the head of the Museum’s Antiquities Department also expressed views on the merger.  “The partnership is going to target the younger demographic specifically and has the potential to attract the older generation. Snap’s AR feature will uplift the way things are presented to the visitors”, said Louvre Vincent in an interview with Decrypt.   What’s Next?  The Egypt Augmented experience will be available to visitors till 2024 and can be used using smartphones.
