Tesla has launched a new version of the Model Y but with surprisingly low cost

Tesla has launched its new Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, and it comes with a surprisingly low price tag.

The updated Model Y has an EPA-estimated range of more than 350 miles per charge, more than the All-Wheel Drive trim that offers around 327 miles.

Tesla says Supercharging the new model can add up to 182 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

And it’s cheaper than you might think.

There’s been plenty of rumor and speculation surrounding a more affordable Tesla model in recent months

Tesla boss Elon Musk has previously poured cold water on the idea of a super cheap $25,000 model

“I think having a regular $25,000 model is pointless. It would be silly. Like, it’ll be completely at odds with what we believe,” Musk said last year during one of the company’s earnings calls.

However, Tesla is reportedly working on a ‘stripped-back’ model that Musk claimed could cost under $30,000

This upcoming cheaper model is yet to materialize, but what we do have is the new Model Y

The Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is the cheapest Model Y to date.

The new model costs around $4,000 less than the Long Range AWD Y, and still has many of the same features.

In the US, the car starts from $46,630, but this is without the $7,500 federal tax credit, which takes it down to under $40,000 –  $39,130, including shipping and order fee, to be exact.

The newly launched version is powered by a single rear-mounted motor, which makes it a little less powerful than the All-Wheel Drive model.

The car can hit 0-60mph (0-96km/h) in 5.4 seconds, compared to 4.6 seconds for the AWD Model Y.

It offers an estimated 357 miles (574km) of range, but this drops to 344 miles (553km) if you opt for the upgrade from the standard 19-inch wheels to the 20-inch option.

The Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is available in five exterior colors and comes with a roof rack, a 3,500lb tow hitch, and all-weather mats.

The car comes with Autopilot as standard, and Tesla’s Full Self-Driving advanced driver assistance system is also available, but this does come at an extra cost. The post Tesla has launched a new version of the Model Y but with surprisingly low cost appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
