A Texas woman who owns a Piper Cherokee 180 has broken down the costs that come with owning a plane and it’s eye opening.

YouTuber FlyWithKay has built her channel around the ins and outs of being a pilot.

But as exciting as it looks to viewers, the expenses that come with such a lifestyle are hefty.

In a video, she laid out all the costs, whether it be for oil or insurance.

Owning a plane is a pretty cool flex, by anyone’s measure.

We’ve seen plenty of jaw-dropping private jets, owned by the likes of Max Verstappen and Drake.

But even on the smaller side of things, planes are an awesome asset to have in your possession.

Whether it’s being flown across the country or all seven continents, it’s a huge perk.

But it doesn’t come cheap.

And nobody knows that better than FlyWithKay, a YouTuber who shares her life as a pilot with her 195k susbcribers.

A lot of her videos make being a pilot look like tons of fun – who among us would turn down flying out to the Bahamas?

But all that jet setting doesn’t come cheap, as Kay laid out in an illuminating video.

To operate a Piper Cherokee 180, she’s paying $100 an hour.

We can’t say for certain how many hours the plane is in motion, but we can see how that amount would add up quickly.

Hangar fees cost $486 a month.

“When I travel, I try to find places that are less than $30 a night,” she added.

That’s a pretty good deal, if you can find it.

What did she describe as the ‘bane of her existence’?

Nothing other than maintenance, which is something most car drivers can relate to.

“Setting aside that $100 per hour means I’m ready for anything,” Kay said.

“When the annual comes up, I’ve got the cash! When I want some upgrades, I can do that too.

“Oil changes? Not a problem.”

How about insurance?

Around $1,000 a year, which isn’t too shabby at all.

Oil is certainly an essential, and with an oil change happening between every 35 and 50 hours, it’d be easy for this to drive up costs.

She put the price at $10 a time, although she admitted to paying $20 at some points.
