Mercedes-Maybach just introduced the new limited-edition S 680 Emerald Isle, a love letter to California ahead of Monterey Car Week.

Only 25 units will be built.

The car will be unveiled in California, and it’s dedicated to the Golden State, but the name means something else entirely.

The two-tone is a huge giveaway.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Emerald Isle

The new Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Emerald Isle will make its public debut at Monterey Car Week.

That’s good news for people who are going to attend because the car looks stunning in the pictures, with two-tone green and white paint, so we can only imagine what it’ll look like ‘in the metal’.

Interestingly, the exterior doesn’t match the interior, which comes upholstered in light brown leather with white accents.

The car is a love letter to California’s coast, but the name is actually inspired by Ireland.

Emerald Isle is one of many nicknames attributed to Ireland, originally coined by Irish writer William Drennan well over 200 years ago.

This also explains the two-tone paint, with white to represent the sand of California and green to represent the pastures of Ireland.

The engine is the same 621-horsepower, 6.0-liter V12 as the ‘standard’ S 680, which is good news because that’s a meaty – and powerful – engine.

Production is limited to 25 units, but there’s no word on pricing.

The standard S 680 starts at around $250,000, so we expect a hefty premium for the limited-edition Emerald Isle.

New launches at Monterey Car Week 2025

Every year, Monterey Car Week in California gives automakers the perfect ‘excuse’ to launch new supercars or limited-edition versions of existing models.

It’s also a great opportunity for collectors, as some of the world’s most incredible cars are auctioned at The Quail, which is halfway between a concours-style car show and an auction event.

This year, among others, collectors will be able to bid on seven cars from the iconic Vic Edelbrock Jr. Collection, and an incredible one-off prototype that’s expected to fetch at least $3 million.
