There’s no chance the new Koenigsegg will be an EV because the CEO thinks they’re ‘like robots’

Sweden’s premier hypercar brand, Koenigsegg, is currently working on new cars for 2026, but it’s a safe bet none of them will be electric.

Why?

Well, CEO Christian von Koenigsegg has just given an interview about the future of his brand.

And he’s said some choice words about EVs, revealing he’s not their biggest fan.

‘Extremely low’ appetite for EVs

Christian said he was in no rush to make an EV for a few reasons.

For starters, he said the appetite just wasn’t there for electric cars right now.

But he said there was more to it than that.

“[I’ve] kind of experienced electric cars myself for many years, and loving the responsiveness, the smoothness, how easy it is to live with it and all of this… But, after a while, if you’re a car enthusiast, you want to talk to the beast, right?” he told Top Gear.

Christian was emphatic that true hypercar fans wanted to really feel their cars.

“You want the throbbing, the pumping, the heat, the sounds, the shifts, all of these aspects that just make it come alive. I would say an electric car is a bit more of a robot. This is a bit more of an animal.”

Koenigsegg has ‘nothing to sell’ right now

For those who are unaware, Koenigsegg is not a mass-producer of hypercars.

Instead, it crafts each individual car in careful, painstaking detail and effort.

That philosophy comes with obvious advantages – it makes the brand (and its cars) feel special and individual to the buyer.

Unfortunately, it also comes with some problems, though some would argue they’re good problems to have.

“We have nothing to sell… which is kind of good, but also annoying, because it’s fun to interact [with] and supply enthusiasts with their dreams and make them come true,” he said.

That is potentially the biggest issue with low-volume production – the (lack of) supply.

As mentioned, though, it’s a good problem to have – well, for Christian von Koenigsegg anyway.

Fear not, however, as new Koenigsegg cars are expected as early as next year.

These new Koenigsegg models are expected, at the very latest, by the beginning of 2027.

But don’t hold your breath for any of them to be electric. The post There’s no chance the new Koenigsegg will be an EV because the CEO thinks they’re ‘like robots’ appeared first on Supercar Blondie.
