Man looked to desperately sell his Tesla as study confirmed EVs lose value quicker than gas-powered cars

This man was looking to sell his Tesla after a study confirmed that EVs lose value more quickly than gas-powered cars.

A recent study found that EVs have a depreciation rate that is 10 times faster than their gas counterparts.

With gas cars declining 3.1 percent in price, the figure for EVs was an astonishing 31.8 percent.

For Felipe Vasconcelos, this was enough to make him want to sell his Tesla.

EVs lose value more quickly than gas-powered cars – and this Tesla owner wants out

A recent study has found that EVs lose value far faster than gas cars do, with a value depreciation of 31.8 percent.

This is significantly higher than the 3.1 percent for gas-powered autos.

Ironically, this could be pinned on the fact that manufacturers like Tesla have been lowering the prices on newer models.

This has made the currently owned Teslas less valuable.

One owner affected was Felipe Vasconcelos.

“I’m trying to offload my Tesla,” Vasconcelos told NBC News.

“I want to sell it because the value for Teslas has been plummeting.

“This investment, I will lose over $30,000.”

However, a used car salesman said that the biggest concern he was hearing about wasn’t to do with value – it was to do with battery range.

“If I want to make it to my brother’s house in Texas, how many stops will I have to make to get there?” he told NBC News’ Christine Romans.

“[Resale value] is not [the customer’s] number one concern at all.

“The number one question I get is about battery life.”

In terms of depreciation rate, some EVs have been affected more than others.

A study undertaken by Boohoff Law found that the Tesla Model S had the highest decline in value between 2015 and 2025.

By way of comparison, the Renault Zoe fared the best.

This is yet another study that shows how complicated owning an electric car can be

As more and more people buy EVs, it seems like studies are being conducted to analyze every minute detail of them.

One study looked at how long owners keep their EVs around for, which turned out to be three years – nine years shorter than the average for gas-powered cars.

There have also been studies that assessed which states were the best for an electric car, and which have revealed the financial impact of transitioning from gas to electric.

Every square inch of EV ownership is being scrutinized, and sometimes the results won’t come out so favorably.

But this is still a developing technology, and there’s always room for improvement.
