Ever wondered what a Bugatti Bolide looks like underneath the skin?

Probably not, but pictures of the completely stripped hypercar have just surfaced online, and it turns out it looks just as good, if not better, with its clothes off.

Underneath the exoskeleton of the Bugatti Bolide lives a carbon-fiber monocoque or tub.

There’s one under the skin of the Chiron too, but the Bolide’s cuts more than a quarter of its weight by shedding 1,200 pounds (544 kg).

Bugatti says it used FIA-derived safety requirements when designing the Bolide’s monocoque.

Those safety requirements are typically reserved for cars competing in Le Mans races.

Without getting too technical, that means stringent rollover requirements and as a result, a tougher shell.

Not only that, but the tub’s also proven to help better balance the car as a whole.

It repositions the driver and passenger for better balance, while also providing extra space behind the occupants.

This allowed the automaker to move the engine forward about 2.5 inches (6.35 cm).

Speaking of which, the track car’s tub has been designed around its screaming quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16.

The huge lump, which sits just in front of the rear wheels, kicks out an astonishing 1,825 horsepower, hence the need for extra safety.

Bugatti’s pretty proud of packaging all those safety requirements into a shell meant to mirror the proportions of a catamaran.

To show off its handiwork, the automaker has shared a number of photos of the carbon-clad chassis on wheels – and it looks astounding, in an exocar kind of way.

It’s a crying shame Bugatti‘s only building 40 examples of the Bolide.

Despite having a price tag of more than $4.3 million a piece, all of those build slots have already been allocated ahead of the anticipated 2024 delivery schedule.
