The Shelby is loved among gearheads.
The classic car plays a key part in America’s auto history.
There is even an Annual Shelby Car Show, which, this year, will host all US-made muscle cars for the first time ever – exciting, right?
Plus, for keen car lovers, if they love this off-road Shelby Mustang concept enough, it could become a reality.
But, we bet you haven’t seen this Shelby before.
You see, this isn’t any ordinary muscle car – this Shelby is incredibly rare and is no other than a 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Convertible 4-Speed.
The listing states that ‘this 1969 Shelby GT500 is one of 245 convertibles produced for the model year, only two of which were specified in Grabber Green with black bucket seats and a four-speed manual.’ Cool right?
The Mustang was built 56 years ago on April 1, 1969, and then delivered to Ogden Ford in Utah.
But the coolest aspect about the car’s history? It has a famous previous owner, Les Claypool, the bassist of Primus from 1994 to 2004.
After the famous face owned it, it then took part in a long, seven-year refurbishment during which the exterior of the 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 was given a new lease of life.
Alongside this, the white soft top, interior cabin, and engine – a 482ci Cobra Jet V8 – were also overhauled.
The engine isn’t for the faint-hearted, either, with a powerhouse driving the motor in this 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 forward.
“It is equipped with a Ram Air intake assembly, a rebuilt four-barrel carburetor and distributor, and ribbed aluminum valve covers.
“Long-tube headers flow into a dual exhaust system equipped with an H-pipe, dual resonators, and a single transverse-mounted muffler with dual outlets.
“Output was factory rated at 335HP and 440 lb-ft of torque,” according to the listing.
This 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 really is an impressive find, and we’re sure the buyer is in for a real treat when they take it for a spin.
The white side stripes and 21 fiberglass panels, such as the front fender and hood, set it apart from the rest.
Additionally, the five-spoke 15″ Shelby and competition suspension make it an interesting ride.
