If you care about getting many, many miles out of your car, you might want to buy a Volvo, as two of the three highest mileage cars in the world are Volvos, and between them, they’ve clocked nearly 5 million miles.

There must be nothing that makes you feel as smug as managing to get this many miles out of your car, and some of these stats are truly jaw-dropping.

The numbers not only show off the dedication of the owners to keeping their cars in good shape, but also how well the cars have been made.

Two Volvos hold the gold and bronze medals for the highest mileage cars, but there is one surprising luxury automaker that holds the silver medal too.

When you’re looking at buying a new car, many people’s priority is to find something that will get them the most bang for their buck, or the most mileage for their money.

If we have a look at the top three highest mileage cars from history, it gives a clear indication of where you should be buying your next car.

In the bronze medal position, we have a company car that has been driven by many different people in Finland, a 1979 Volvo 245 GL that managed to handle 1,630,000 miles.

The company, a Finnish one called S.E. Makinen, said that it didn’t do anything differently with the vehicle to help it reach its spectacular milestone other than ‘proper care’.

Luxury car makes it into second place

In second place, we have a car that was used as a taxi.

The 1976 Mercedes 240D hit an impressive two million mile mark back in 2004.

Its owner, Gregorios Sachinidis, actually ended up giving the Mercedes 240D to Mercedes-Benz’s museum as it was the longest-running vehicle in the automaker’s history.

Like the bronze medal, the gold medal position is held by a 1966 Volvo 1800S.

The Volvo 1800S is owned by a man called Irving Gordon, and he recently set a world record for the highest mileage by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle.

The Guinness Book of World Records holder has three million miles on the clock from driving over 100,000 miles per year visiting car shows.

The original clutch on the manual transmission vehicle lasted a mind-blowing 450,000 miles and its longest journey in one stretch went between New York and Vancouver, Canada.

Turns out that if you want to buy a new car that’ll last you a lifetime, you should really consider Volvo.
